Background

I moved out to Hanoi, Vietnam in August 2019 to complete an English Teaching internship with BME. I signed up after completing my TEFL qualification in the UK, and decided to take a practical internship opportunity I found on the TEFL website. If you’re interested in teaching English abroad, or gaining your TEFL qualification to begin with – you can find loads of useful information on their website here.

I was based in Hanoi, in the Cau Giay district. I taught across up to 10 primary schools all across Hanoi for 4.5 months with classes of up to 60 students at once! I taught all ages, but mainly Grade 3-5 (equivalent to our Primary School’s Years 2-5).

During weekends off and school holidays, I explored the North of Vietnam, from Ninh Binh to Sa Pa. Over Christmas, I flew to central Vietnam and explored Hue, Da Nang and Hoi An. Once my internship was complete in January 2020, I flew South and explored Ho Chi Minh and Mui Ne, before crossing the border into Cambodia and continuing my South East Asia travels.
